Artificial Turf Is Completely Maintenance Free
No brand of artificial turf is completely maintenance free. Although there is no need for the things a normal lawn would require, such as mowing, trimming, watering and weeding, artificial turf does and will continue to need a modest level of attention. The most common maintenance item is weeds. Weeds can form on the perimeter of the installation, and under ideal circumstances can actually form inside the turf itself.
All Brands of Artificial Turf Drain in the Same Manner
Not all brands of artificial grass drain in the same manner or have the same drainage capabilities. While they all work on the same basic concept, how they achieve their results may be dramatically different. How well a drainage system works and the amount of water it can drain depends on the materials used in the construction of the base of the turf. “Hole Punch” (holes are poked thru the material) are among the most common types of backing for artificial turf products. Some artificial turf companies burn or cut small holes in the fabric to allow water to drain.
Other companies, use an interconnected weaving technique that offers support and strength, while allowing the maximum amount of water to drain through the mesh or deploy a proprietary manufacturing process for maximum drainage. Finally, the base materials used can and will impact drainage capacity.
Product selection, infill vs. thatch and drainage based on your project needs are the most important elements to start with.
